About Exercise Bikes
Despite the competition from trendy new fitness inventions, exercise bikes continue to be popular options for home exercise. They offer the same aerobic benefits of riding a bicycle at any time, in any weather, without leaving the comfort and safety of home. Exercise bikes don't take up much space, require little or no balance or coordination, and can provide an effective workout for all levels of users, from beginners to serious competitors. While the same could be said for a number of other types of home fitness equipment, the exercise bike is one of the few that allows you to watch television or read a magazine while you work out. For many people, having convenient access to quality exercise equipment is critical to sticking with a long-term exercise program.

Customer Review
I waited a few months to check out everything with the bike before writing a review. I am extremely pleased with this bike and couldn't have made a better choice. Everything was well packed and was in perfect condition. Assembly took my wife and me about 1.5 hrs with no major problems. It was a little easier to do using our own tools in some of the assembly but the tools supplied will work just fine. Only criticism here is that the sketches in the instructions could have been detailed a little better but this is very minor.
The computer is terrific and allows you to keep a running record of your exercising. I get a kick out of the occasional messages which scroll across the top which tell you to hydrate yourself, take deep breaths, etc. I enjoy watching the info on the computer so much that I haven't even thought yet of reading while exercising, since the book would block out the computer and you couldn't see the messages scrolling! There are many pre-programmed workouts, and so far I have seen no reason to program in my own which you can do easily enough if you like. The mechanism is very quiet in use -- whisper quiet in fact. The flywheel mechanism is impressive and the transitions between resistance levels during the workout are smooth as can be. Amazing technology from Schwinn. We ordered a soft cushion for the seat for improvement of comfort, although the seat it comes with is quite comfortable. The pulse measurement built into the handlebars is so handy for workouts, and is also accurate as I compared it to my own BP/pulse monitor.
No Chest Strap - W. Watson - Ohio USA
I want to point out that the description of this bike says, "both telemetry and contact heart rate monitoring." The product description talks about using a chest strap for your heart rate but no chest strap is included with your purchase. I find that to be a little deceptive.
If you wish to take advantage of the chest strap you must buy a polar compatible chest strap for around in addition to paying extra for the bike compared to the model 130.
The seat has come loose and required re-tightening and the straps on the pedals hit the ground if you have them in the smallest position.
Riding the bike is very smooth but the display has to be at the right angle or you can't read it. I am 5' 11" and I have the seat in hole 3, and the display as flat as it can go to be able to read it.
The water bottle holder is nice but for the price they should throw in a water bottle too.
The leveling legs on the back stabilizer are a good feature. Despite what others have said, I found the assembly instructions pretty clear and easy to follow. Pay attention to the details and you shouldn't have a problem.
In summary it appears to be a nice exercise bike but I'm not sure that the features you get with the Model 140 justify the large price increase over the Model 130.
Enjoy the Exercise Bike - Melvin E. Sperber - Poulsbo, WA USA
The assembly went fairly well. Be careful when installing the pedals. There are arrows, so study them on the pedals and arms.
The nuts, bolts and screws need to be very tight. It was easier than I thought it would be. The programed routines are good and easy to set up. It is quite when operated. Yes I would recommend you buy this Schwinn 140 Exercise Bike.
